Amazon Echo Buds – Review

Amazon Echo Buds are fantastic earbuds with an IPX4 water-resistance rating and Bose’s noise reduction technology. The earbuds even feature a fitness tracker and Alexa access. Despite all these things, there are plenty of other things to know about the Amazon Echo Buds, so without wasting time, let’s take a brief overview of the device. Here we go!

Design

The Amazon Echo Buds are made of plastic, which is light in weight and not very high in quality. They are definitely not as tough as Apple’s AirPods, and even the case is made up of plastic and is quite slippery. However, the case looks brand new.

The earbuds come with glossy touch panels along with some default controls that you can, of course, reconfigure via the Alexa app. A long press launches the earbuds, and when you double-tap any of the earbuds, they start toggling between passive isolation and noise-reduction. You may not like the earbuds’ default configuration as they are very limited, but the good news is that you can easily configure them. Additionally, the earbuds come with three pairs of ear tips and wings.

If we compare the IPX4 rating of Amazon Echo Buds with Apple’s Airpods and Samsung Galaxy Buds, the Echo Buds tops both the earbuds. The built-in fitness tracker works decently, and it can cover your various basic stuff such as step-count, calorie-burnt, pace, and duration. You can even control your playback with your voice, thanks to Alexa, but you will need to create a workout profile in the Alexa app.

Noise Reduction

As I already mentioned that the Amazon Echo Buds use Bose’s noise reduction technology, which works flawlessly. The earbuds have active noise reduction (ANR) capabilities. There are two noise-masking technologies, active noise reduction (ANR) and active noise canceling (ANC). ANC knocks out background noise; on the other hand, ANR reduces noise but doesn’t eliminate it.

However, Bose’s ANR capabilities are relatively better than some brand’s ANC. You don’t get complete silence, but it works nicely.

Connect Echo Buds

To connect the Echo Buds, you need to open the lid of the earbuds and then press the button available on the bottom of the case until a blue LED light flashes. Once the LED blue light starts flashing, open your phone’s Bluetooth and connect it to the Echo Buds, and you are good to go.

The earbuds even have support for AAC codec and Bluetooth 5.0, which means you can enjoy high-quality streaming if you have an iPhone or an iPad. It doesn’t support aptX, but you won’t see any issues. However, the device uses the Realtek RTL8763B SoC that helps the device consume less power.

Update Echo Buds

Well, you just need to sign in to the Alexa app, and it will automatically update the earbuds. However, if you are not signed in, then you will have to follow the following steps:

  • Open and connect your earbuds to your smartphone, then open the Alexa app.

  • Now open the tab in the Alexa app and select Echo & Alexa to locate the Echo Buds.

  • After that, scroll to the About section to check if any update is available.

Set-Up

You can use the Alexa app to set up the earbuds and do several other tasks such as checking emails, asking questions, setting reminders, and many more. Here are some steps you can follow to set up your earbuds:

  • Open the Device tab in the Alexa app and press the plus (+) button, and Add Device.

  • Now you will have to choose the Amazon Echo section, specifically Echo Buds and follow a few other steps until you are redirected to the Alexa app’s home screen.

  • Once you are done with all these steps, you are good to go.

Battery and Sound Qualities

Amazon claims that the Echo Buds can last up to 5 hours, but they actually can last more than that. The earbuds even charge faster; the 15 minutes of charging can get you more than two hours of playback. One more thing is that the right earbud’s battery dies 20 minutes earlier than the left one, which is another great feature.

If we talk about the sound quality of the device, you will get significantly boosted bass. You may find that your music is not clear sometimes due to auditor masking, but overall it’s good.

Conclusion

I won’t beat around the bush; the Echo Buds is a great device and a value for money product. I would say you should buy this product.
