Death Note 2: When Can We Expect to See Light Again?

Death Note is a 2017 film-based manga by the same name. After three years of its release, it seems that the fans can’t wait anymore for the next movie in the much-anticipated series. Written by Takeshi Obata, the manga Death Note was first released in 2003. It later led to the creation of Death Note anime, which has become one of the most popular anime of all time. The manga and the anime’s success were an essential motivation for the movie that was released three years back. However, the film failed to be as successful as the anime adaptation; it was still a fun watch, and hopefully, the upcoming movie will get much more recognition. But the question everyone is asking is when we will get to Light again?

Release Date

As of now, none of the people involved with the first installment of the movie has come out to give an official date for the next film. So, it seems that the film won’t be released any time soon. Going by present world conditions and the healthcare crisis, even if the shooting for the next part was planned, there is a high probability that it must have been delayed. If the shooting even resumed by now, the movie will only be released after one year, no sooner than that. This scenario assumes that shooting has been continued by now, which is not certain. So, fans might have to wait much more than just a year. The first installment of the movie initially premiered in theaters, and it was later aired on Netflix. We can expect the next film to follow the same pattern. The film creators have not revealed anything about the plot; however, it’s safe to assume that it will resume where the first part left.

Synopsis

Death Note anime is also a supernatural thriller that serves as the plot for the movie. It revolves around a high school student who somehow gets his hands on a mysterious notebook. When he opens it, he finds several instructions that explain how the other-worldly book is supposed to be used. It seems too good to be true to the protagonist, but it turns out that the book has supernatural powers, and one can kill anyone using it just by writing their name in the book.

The possibility that one can change the course of history by using the notebook dawns on Light (the protagonist), who vows to use it to make the world a better place. However, the power that the book grants him turns out to be too much, and he goes on an indiscriminate killing spree trying to create a world order of his preference. He justifies his killing initially by pointing out that he is killing only criminals; however, he soon starts killing innocent people who have done nothing wrong. So, the killing that first began to make the world a better place now was something much more depraved.

The movie takes many ideas from the anime though it is much more rooted in the manga. The film is based in Washington, and the protagonist is named Light Turner. Even though there are a lot of similarities between the two, there are some differences as well. The fact that Light kills Kenny Doyle, who is sent into detention after harassing Mia Sutton, is something new for the fans; this is not how the actual story in the anime plays out where the protagonist kills several unknown thugs. However, in both of them, the harassers are killed in an accident.   Hopefully, the next movie brings much more to the original storyline so the fans can finally get something to see something unique. The movie adaptations so far have not been as good as the anime or the manga. The fans will hope that this changes as soon as possible. However, the release of the next movie, as mentioned before, is not yet certain. So, we might be in for a long wait before we can see our favorite characters from the anime back in action.
