Easy Guide to Fix Common Errors on Zoom

Zoom is a widely used video conferencing platform that saw an upsurge of users after March. Since the world went into self-quarantine, Zoom became the most reliable option to connect with our colleagues, clients, friends, etc. But Zoom can be troublesome at times and interrupts with the ongoing meetings. Seeing a frozen screen or unable to hear the audio properly is not what you signed up for, and it will disable you from actively participating in the meeting room. Fortunately, we can solve the issue on our own without any help from the expertise.

But before you blame Zoom for its instability and video or audio problems, you must make sure that you have a stable and robust internet connection. You must also ensure that there aren’t any background downloads or heavy streaming on your desktop consuming most of your data. You can also make some settings on the Zoom app from the Settings Cog. From there, go to the Video section and uncheck the boxes for ‘Enable HD’ and ‘Touch Up My Appearance.’ If that doesn’t work, try disabling your webcam to put less of a strain on your internet connection. Other than this, the following are some of the solutions that you should try:

Check Zoom Service Status

Visit the Zoom Service Status to check the current status of Zoom’s components, like video webinars, meetings, etc. It will help you figure out if the problem is from your end or from Zoom itself. You can see the current status of all the components offered by Zoom. If everything works fine, then you’ll see the ‘Operational’ message appearing on your screen. If there is an issue, you might see “Degraded Performance” or “Under Maintenance” appearing on your screen. If you scroll down the page, you’ll get more details and information about the problem.

Update Zoom App

Like any other app, Zooo update the app, follow these steps:

  1. From the top-right corner, click on your profile picture.

  2. Click on Check for Updates. If an update is available, it will start downloading.

  3. Then, click on Update to install it.

  4. Zoom will automatically restart after the update is successfully installed.

If you run into any problems while updating the app, try downloading the Zoom Download Center’s latest version. Also, ensure that your desktop’s operating system is running on the latest update.

Whitelist Zoom Emails

Zoom keeps tabs with you by sending you regular emails like to activate your account or remind you about a scheduled meeting, etc. If you aren’t receiving any such mails from Zoom, and have waited at least 30 minutes, then it’s time to add no-reply@zoom.us to your email whitelist. Whitelisting an Email ID will report your email client that anything received from that address should not go to Spam. So, you’ll get to know anything Zoom has to offer to you. If this method doesn’t work for you, then visit Zoom’s support page to find a list of IP addresses that you should also whitelist.

Zoombombing

Zoombombing refers to unwanted intrusion into your Zoom call. More often than not, such intrusions are caused by malicious hackers and spammers. Ever since Zoom’s increasing popularity, Zoombombing or Zoom Raiding has become a common issue. Fortunately, the company took care of it by updating the app, which made it mandatory to have a meeting password to enter the meeting room, by default. And in June 2020, Zoom introduced an end-to-end encryption security feature for all members that was previously a paid membership perk.

To eradicate this issue, make sure that you do not share the meeting information with people you don’t want to participate in the meeting room. Once all the participants join the room, ensure that the host locks the meeting to prevent unknown sources from entering. To do so, the host has to click on ‘Participants’ followed by the three horizontal dotted icons. Then, click on the Lock Meeting.

Stop Echoing Audio

Audio echoes are one of the most common and annoying issues to deal with, and at times, one can even hear background noises. Echoing audio usually occurs when someone keeps their microphone too close to their speakers. Or, it could be that multiple people have joined the call from the same room. There are several other reasons for the occurrence of this issue, but you can resolve it quickly. And the best way to control this problem is to ask everyone to mute their microphone when the other person is speaking. They can unmute themselves only when they have to speak. To mute and unmute the speaker quickly,

press Alt + A keys. All of these methods will surely eradicate any issue you might be experiencing on Zoom. You can share these tips and methods with your colleagues and friends to ensure that they are aware of the problems and their solutions so that you all can collectively resolve the issues to the maximum when you join a meeting room.
