Google Pixel 4A 5G: Leaks and Rumours

Google now seems to be following a standard pattern for launching its Pixel Smartphones. The Pixel 3A was launched by Google back in 2019 which was a budget version of their 2019 flagship, Google Pixel 3. The same happened with this year’s flagship from Google; Pixel 4 was launched earlier this year, followed by the launch of the lighter variant, Pixel 4A. But one feature the Pixel 4A lacked compatibility for 5G networks. Now all that seems to be changing as Google has announced the launch of its new smartphone, which will be a successor to the Pixel 4A. Pixel 4A 5G is expected to launch by the end of 2020, and it will have a bunch of additional features along with being 5G compatible. Let’s have a more in-depth look into the specs that are confirmed.

Look and Design

Just like its predecessor, the Pixel 4A 5G will have an ergonomic design and a body entirely made out of plastic. The polycarbonate back is expected to be launched in two colors this time. Users will get to choose between the classic mat black and a new white color. This will be accompanied by the signature Pixel power button, which often has a contrasting color. The overall dimensions of the phone are expected to increase as the new model is expected to have a bigger screen size than the regular 4A. Assuming that the fundamental design outlook remains the same, the smartphone will have a clean unicolor back with a black square-shaped camera bump. The square camera bump will have a single primary camera lens along with a flashlight. Following the previous route, Google is expected to include a rear fingerprint sensor placed centrally on the back of the phone. We’re assuming that the new model is likely to continue having a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Display

As mentioned earlier, the new Pixel 4A 5G is likely to have a bigger screen. Leaks suggest that it will feature a 6.3-inch OLED display with the same 60Hz refresh rate. It’ll be a shame if Google doesn’t update the refresh rate at least to a 90Hz in the new model. The screen will have minimal bezels with a punch hole system for the front camera. Not much information is available about the resolution of the new display; however, it is highly likely that it will be an improvement from the previous version.

Camera

The camera is probably the biggest highlight of a smartphone in the Pixel series. Google has repeated the same trend as it did with Pixel 3 and 3A, that is, keeping the main camera module the same in both the high and low-end variants. The Pixel 4A 5G is likely to share the same primary camera as the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4A. It will pack in the same 12MP primary sensor with no additional cameras at the back. The camera is backed up by the fantastic image processing software and so going to be on par with the company flagship. The outputs will be crisp and vibrant. It will have all new Pixel camera features with a dedicated night mode for taking your low light photos to the next level. Along with the night mode, Google will also provide an astrophotography mode for the photography geeks. The front camera will be a single 8MP punch hole system which is quite capable of capturing detailed selfies and portrait mode shots.

Hardware and Specs

Rumors have suggested that the new Pixel 4A 5G will feature the upper mid-range processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 765G. The 765G is a 5G capable chipset which is considered to be the best performer in the budget category. This will come paired with 6GB of RAM with about 128GB of storage space. The chances are that Google is likely to launch a single variant for the new model without any support for external microSD cards. As mentioned earlier, the new Pixel 4A 5G may have a 3.5mm headphone jack which makes it a compatible budget-oriented smartphone. Rumors have suggested that the new model will have a 3800mAh battery, which certainly sounds less on paper, but we must keep in mind that Google is excellent in battery optimization. The seamless software optimization from Google and the highly efficient Snapdragon 765G chipset make sure that there is no compromise in performance and efficiency.

Pixel 4A 5G seems like a step taken in the right direction from Google. The new addition to the Pixel lineup is supposed to increase the market share of Google substantially. We can say that Google has gone with a 3-model lineup for the Pixel Series in 2020, with Pixel 4 being the top of the line flagship, the Pixel 4A 5G being the mid-segment variant, and the Pixel 4A being the low-end budget model.
