How to Hide Your Clutter on Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, or Jitsi

We all are dealing with a pandemic which has forced all of us to work remotely from our home and depend upon video conferencing or online meeting apps to communicate with our co-workers. But what if your home is looking a little messed up? It can be very embarrassing, right? But luckily these platforms give its users the option to hide or blur their background, which can save them from this kind of situation. So, today we are going to show you how you can enable these features and hide your clutter on these apps.



Zoom


Zoom is a popular and robust video conferencing app that is being used by millions of people worldwide. The app offers a vast collection of backgrounds to its users for hiding their background or clutter. You can also apply your custom background on Zoom. But you must have a compatible and reasonably powerful PC to use this feature. However, if your PC is old, you will have to rely on a green screen to hide your clutter. To hide your clutter on Zoom:

  1. Open the app (Zoom client app).

  2. Click/tap on the setup (Gear)icon, which is located on the upper right corner of the app.

  3. Now click on “Background and filters” (from the left-hand menu).

  4. You will be asked to download a file (Smart Virtual Background package).

  5. Once the download is complete, you can select the background that you want to use on your app. You can also set a background even when your meeting has started. To do this tap on the arrow which is near the “Stop Video” button and choose your “Virtual Background.”

  6. If you want to use your custom background, then tap on the “+” sign and select an image/background from your computer and add it to the app to use it as your virtual background.

Skype


Skype is another famous online meeting platform that contains lots of unique features in it. The platform offers both virtual backgrounds feature and the blur feature to its users to hide their background or clutter. You can also upload and use your custom backgrounds on the platform. To hide your clutter on Skype app:

  1. Launch the app (Skype app).

  2. Next, navigate to settings by tapping/hitting the three dots icon (located in the top -left corner).

  3. Now tap on the “Audio and Video” option.

  4. Finally, tap on the “Blur” option to blur your background or use the “+” symbol to add an image on the app and use it as your virtual background.

Microsoft Teams


Microsoft Teams is a popular online meeting/video conferencing platform/app developed by Microsoft. The app offers both virtual backgrounds and the blur feature to its users to hide their clutter. To hide your clutter on the Microsoft Teams app:

  1. Open the app (Microsoft Teams app) and tap on the “Meetings” option.

  2. Join your meeting by tapping the “Meet now” option.

  3. You will see three toggles (located at the bottom of your video image).

  4. Click/tap on the center toggle to open the background menu.

  5. Now select your preferred virtual background from the list and set it up in the app. You can also add your custom background by tapping on the “Add new” option (located near the “Background Settings” option.

  6. Go back to the main menu and close the “Background setting” using the toggle button.

  7. Now, whenever you join a meeting, enable the center toggle, and your background will be updated.

Note: This feature is available for both Android and iOS users. Besides this, if you are using the free version of the app, then you cannot use this feature.


Jitsi Meet


Jitsi Meet is a popular open-source online meeting/video conferencing app that provides lots of unique features to its users. Using it, you can easily hide your clutter by blurring your background. To do this:

  1. Open the app (Jitsi Meet app).

  2. Now start your meeting by hitting the “Go” button.

  3. Next, tap on the “Join meeting” option to join your meeting.

  4. Now click on the ellipses (located at the bottom menu).

  5. Finally, click on the “Blur my background” option.
