How to Use LMMS Like a Pro

LMMS is an excellent free DAW software that one can use to compose melodies and produce beats. The digital audio workstation software works in the same way as FL Studio does. LMMS works great on even a lightweight PC. You can make music on your low-end PC with the help of this outstanding DAW. Using LMMS does not require much time and effort. If you are familiar with FL Studio, you won’t have any difficulty while using LMMS. It works on all operating systems. It is really easy to learn LMMS. Let’s get started.

Song Editor

Song Editor is the section where the main elements of a song appear. You can find virtual instruments, drums, sound effects, and automation in the “Song Editor” section. You can create a track and adjust the settings. You can mute or unmute a track by clicking on the track window. Adjust the volume and pan to the right and the left channel. While you are editing a MIDI file, you will get a number of options.

Piano Roll

Piano Roll is somewhat similar to the Piano Roll in FL Studio. You can edit MIDI notes by dragging and dropping the notes accordingly. If you do not own a MIDI keyboard, there is no need to worry! You can compose melodies using the Pencil Tool available in the LMMS. You can make changes to the notes to make them sound better. You can alter the pitch of each MIDI note.

Beat Editor

Apart from making melodies, you can produce your own beats with the samples given in the software. Creating beats in the software is easy enough. You can create beats and basslines using the step sequencer similar to FL Studio. In order to fine-tune your beats, you can drag and drop to create the perfect beats.

Automation Editor

Automation is a feature that lets you set parameters for a specific sound of an instrument. You can automate vocals and the sound of instruments using the Automation Editor. To create a new automation track, click on “Add Automation Track.” Automation plays an important role in making a song sound better. Automation does an excellent job of fading the loud sound of an instrument.

FX Mixer

FX Mixer on LMMS is simple to use. It is used to set the volume level of each individual track. Whenever you create a track, it automatically occupies its position in the FX Mixer. Click FX Mixer that appears in the menu section, and the FX Mixer will open. The shortcut key to do this is F9 on your keyboard.

Add Effect in LMMS

To apply effects to a track, click on the effects channel in the FX Mixer. Choose the effect you want to apply and add it to the desired channel. The applied effects will appear in the FX Mixer.

Export a Project

After your track is ready, first name the file, select the file format such as WAV, MP3, etc. and click to export it. You need to choose the folder where you want your file to be saved after being exported.

LMMS is an easy to use tool. Follow the aforementioned instructions and learn how to create a new track, use Piano Roll, and add effects in the FX mixer.
