Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in “A Suspense Novelist’s Trail of Deceptions”

According to a report by IndieWire, Jake Gyllenhaal has reportedly signed a new TV series which is an adaptation of a New York article.


The film will feature an unreliable narrator, and it will give a sceptical look to white identity. The title of the upcoming movie is “A Suspense Novelist’s Trail of Deceptions”, and Janicza Bravo will do the directorial work.



Jake Gyllenhaal is reportedly very much excited with the project, the story of which will also be written by Janicza Bravo.


Bravo has written the script and directed the upcoming film “Zola.” She is now teaming up with Annapurna to create the series adaptation of an article written by Ian Parker.


The article which Parker published in February 2019 is about a former book editor Dan Mallory. The Deadline reports that the series will feature an unreliable protagonist who thinks he has a brain tumor and mourns folks who are not even dead yet. The narrator will always try to get away with anything he does by using everyone’s sympathy.


The central character is a caucasian man, suffering from pathological issues. He feels empty, and in order to fill the void, he dupes people. The TV series will centre around this whiteness and how the audience makes room for the protagonist’s behavior.


Bravo will also be the co-writer of the script alongside Brian Savelson. She will also executively produce the show alongside Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker.


The release date and the distributor of the series haven’t been revealed yet.  Bravo, along with Gyllenhaal, is gearing up for bringing the article to TV with support from Annapurna.

Bravo holds a pedigree of directing critically acclaimed episodes of “Atlanta” and Amazon Prime’s 2018 show Forever. “Zola” will be her second feature film. The first one was “Lemon” which was an independent comedy released in 2017.


Jake Gyllenhaal is an Oscar nominee, renowned for many mind-bending films such as 2001 film Donnie Darko, Dennis Villeneuve’s 2013 film Enemy, Dennis Villeneuve’s film Prisoners, and 2011 science fiction film Source code.


Lately, he had been seen in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s final film of phase 3-“Spider-Man: Far From Home.”


His other critically acclaimed films include “Nightcrawler” and Bon Joon-ho’s Okja, Heath Ledger’s starrer-“Brokeback Mountain” and David Fincher’s Zodiac which was about an unidentified serial killer of San Francisco.


“A Suspense Novelist’s Trail of Deceptions” will start its production soon enough taking all the precautions from the raging coronavirus disease.
