Netflix is trying out its all-new Shuffle feature. There are many occasions that one ends up endlessly scrolling the streaming site’s catalog unable to decide what to watch. Well, it seems those days are over as the Shuffle feature is designed to serve up something to the viewers which it believes they might like. It will be based on the movies that you have watched or the shows that are in your watchlist, the algorithm will go through all of your choices and preferences to find the ideal show for you to watch.
It is a great addition to its long list of features because it’s natural to be indecisive when it comes to choosing what to watch next because of the huge library of movies, shows, and documentaries that Netflix has. The “Play Something” button chooses an episode of a show or a movie based on user preference but it sounds very similar to the already existing recommendations. Although with the Play Something button already available, it won’t take long to find out in what ways they differ.
But it is not the first time that the company is introducing this feature on their platform. In 2019 as well they experimented with the shuffle mode on its Android app in April. Even this year in July, Netflix tested the shuffle feature both on Amazon Fire apps as well as its Android app. Although the feature is not yet available for all users as the latest test appears to hit Netflix’s Tv apps for the selected group of viewers. Netflix has confirmed that they are running tests in different countries and different periods and will only make the feature available for everyone if people who have used it find it useful.
Netflix is trying hard to make something productive for its users to improve the viewing experience. This is nothing new as they have recently introduced their Playback control feature that lets viewers choose at what pace they want to view the show. They got a lot of positive feedback for it, especially from people who are blind or have a hearing impairment. It is because of the relentless pursuit of Netflix to improve viewing experience that they have been able to do so much better than any other streaming sites out there. In only one quarter this year, they were able to gain 10 million more paying subscribers.
All of this is made possible because of tons of quality content and great viewing experience. As far as the shuffle mode is concerned it depends totally on the feedback of the viewers if they want to keep this feature or not. Netflix seems to take its subscriber’s advice quite seriously and it will stay only if the feature is helpful for the viewing experience.
