The most coveted character from the original ones, Kano, is a Mortal Kombat legendary bad-guy. The mercenary has had a streamlined storyline throughout the series but has given fans awe-worthy moments also. He is a member of the cartel called Black Dragon, which doesn’t take away from the fact that he is extremely good at what he does. He is an arch-enemy of Sonya Blade and Jax Briggs, whose chronicles make up most of his story. He is known for his cybernetic metal faceplate, which has an infrared eye laser.
The infamous antagonist was of Japanese origin
As per the makers’ initial ideas, the character was developed as an American of Japanese descent. But after the movie came in 1995, everything changed. The actor playing Kano, late great Trevor Goddard, spoke with an Australian accent during the shooting. Thus, the character took on an Australian avatar for the rest of the franchise. In addition to his accent there was also a change in the character’s appearance, which was initially based on actor Richard Divizo. Initially, Kano had a receding hairline but in 2011, the character was shown with a full head of hair, as an homage to the late actor who died in 2003.
Mortal Kombat has become one of the most popular franchises partially because of the way the characters have been developed over the years. And also for the amazing crossovers. But the characters have depth and meaning, which players find to give the game a realistic experience.
Kano kept on changing shape
He was first seen in 1992, in the first game. Since then, he has been a recurrent feature, but he doesn’t rank so high if we are to go by metrics. From the first eleven characters, he has the least number of features. But the variety of his placements all over the franchise shows his importance to the story. He was present in the crossover game called, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, we also saw him in the animated series, web-series and obviously in the movie. He has a robust following as a mighty antagonist.
He is known for changing his looks with every other edition. Once, he was seen with a large helmet, two red eyes, with a metal plate across the right eye. It is said that The Terminator inspired the look. We see now an eerie-looking villain who has completely given into the syndicate he’s working for. With substantial black dragon tattoos across his arms, he looks eviler than ever. He has now appeared without a shirt or with just a black vest, and a wire hung on his neck, carrying a clump of Sonya Blade’s hair. Although his return to the games is unknown, he is set to be seen in the new movie and played by Josh Lawson.
